A heart-first, child-led organisation providing specialist emotional wellbeing and crisis support across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

We are dedicated to breaking the cycle of trauma for children who have experienced or are living through domestic violence, particularly those currently in refuge accommodation. Through evidence-based therapies, trauma-informed care, and a commitment to child-centred recovery, we offer safety, healing, and hope.

We’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign to help us reach more children and families in crisis. Your donation can directly fund therapy, support, and the safe spaces these children so urgently need.

Together, we can change the story.

What Is CALMSS Children’s Trust?

CALMSS Children’s Trust is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. We provide specialist, trauma-informed therapeutic care to help them feel safe, process what they’ve been through, and begin to heal.

We offer a range of direct support, including:

  • Play therapy, creative therapy, and counselling

  • Emotional and psychological recovery programmes

  • Educational support and advocacy

  • Safe, child-led spaces to rebuild trust, confidence and resilience

Our services are available to children aged 0–18, whether they’re currently living in refuge accommodation or have recently left it with their non-abusive parent or carer.

Why Are We Doing This?

Because 1 in 5 children in the UK has lived through domestic abuse, and too many are left to carry that trauma alone.

Children who grow up in violent homes often struggle with anxiety, depression, self-harm, school disruption, and relationship difficulties. If left unsupported, this trauma can shape their entire future.

At CALMSS, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. That’s why our work focuses entirely on child-centred, therapeutic care, so that young people don’t just survive abuse, but are given the tools to heal and thrive.

We’re here to rewrite the story for children affected by domestic violence, and to walk beside them, every step of the way

Who We Help

CALMSS Children’s Trust supports children and young people aged 0–18 who have experienced domestic abuse and are in need of emotional, psychological or educational support.

We work with:

🧸 Children currently living in refuge accommodation

Alongside their non-abusive parent or carer, these children often arrive feeling frightened, confused, or withdrawn. We offer a gentle, child-led space to help them begin to feel safe again.

🏠 Children who have recently left refuge settings

Transitioning into a new home or school after abuse can be overwhelming. CALMSS Children's trust, provides continued emotional and practical support during this fragile period.

🤝 Children referred by professionals or families

If a child is living at home but is struggling with trauma symptoms due to past domestic abuse, we may be able to offer therapy or group work, depending on funding and availability.

We work with children affected by:

  • Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse in the home

  • Coercive control, gaslighting or witnessing harm to a parent

  • Displacement from their home due to safety concerns

We do not require a formal domestic abuse diagnosis or social care plan to offer support. If a parent, carer or professional believes a child has been impacted by domestic abuse, we’ll listen and explore how we can help.
