Therapeutic Play Sessions for Children
Understanding Emotional Challenges in Young People
At Calmss, we believe play is a child’s natural language. Our therapeutic play sessions give children safe, creative ways to explore emotions and build coping skills when words are difficult. Using play, art, and storytelling, we help children manage anxiety, trauma, and behavioural challenges. These sessions are especially effective for younger children and those with additional needs, providing a gentle and engaging route into therapy. Calmss works with parents and schools to ensure support continues beyond the session room.

Addressing Local Needs: Ages 2–11
Across Lancashire, many children within the early years and primary age group are living with emotional challenges that too often go unseen or misunderstood. Between the ages of two and eleven, a child’s capacity for emotional regulation, social connection, and self-expression is still in its earliest stages, yet many face adversity before they have the words to explain what they feel.

Responsive Crisis Support: Ages 2–11
When a child is in emotional crisis, timely support must be both responsive and developmentally appropriate. At CALMSS, we recognise that children in distress often do not have the words to explain what is wrong. Their needs cannot be met through conversation alone. Instead, support must be offered through presence, through safety, and through creative, non-verbal forms of expression

Creating a Safe Space for Children and Young Adults
At CALMSS, creating a safe space is not simply an aspect of our work; it is the very foundation upon which everything else is built. We understand that for many children and young people, seeking emotional support requires immense courage, especially when their trust has been broken, or their voices have previously been ignored or dismissed.
"CALMSS has helped me overcome obstacles and provided consistent trust in a system that often feels impersonal. I highly recommend their services."
